Whose idea is
Walk and Ride?

The Walk and Ride Public Transport Walking
Initiative is the brainchild of Paddy Murphy. Paddy has extensive expertise in the field of health promotion, gained during his period as CEO of the Irish Heart Foundation.
In 1996, he created the Sli na Slainte (path to health) initiative. This involved the implementation of walking routes in towns all over Ireland to inspire people to take more exercise for enjoyment and for health. Sli na Slainte was so successful and so pioneering that it
was adopted in the USA, Canada and in eight European countries.
The National Transport Authority has facilitated the design and development of Walk & Ride and is committed to placing signage on all public transport and planned new maps.
